Every athletes biggest “critic” by: Todd starks

“I could have followed through more”

Why didn’t I pass the ball sooner?

“I should have gotten more shots up”

“I should have lifted more”

Am I good enough to play at this level?

What will the fans think? Other players think?

Find yourself asking these types of questions at all while playing? You know what these questions serve as? The words your looking for are self-criticism. Yes these are questions myself and athletes at every level find themselves asking when doubt eases in to the mind. There will always be someone that has something to say about the way you play the game of basketball but your biggest critic and most important opinion on your game as an individual is yourself. If you find yourself ever asking these types of questions simply add two words in front of these types of doubts and they will turn into the type of statements needed to continue your pursuit of greatness. What are the words you ask? Simply stated…”I CAN”. Throughout my playing career, doubt was something I let get into my mind more often than not an it can truly have a negative impact on your game and how you play. Anytime you have to ask those questions quickly insert those two words in the front of those questions and you will be surprised at how that can motivate your work towards your goal because YOU CAN.
